Below are some ideas to help support your child's learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage, Prime Areas of Learning. The Prime Areas of Learning are;
The Prime Areas are important because they lay the foundations for children’s success in all other areas of learning and of life.
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
The Prime Areas are important because they lay the foundations for children’s success in all other areas of learning and of life.
Don't forget all areas of learning can be incorporated into all of the activities on the Home Learning pages of the pre-school website... For example; Counting how many jumps. How does your body feel after exercise?. If it goes wrong try again and get better at it! Talk about what the children have done and why! Encourage them to extend their learning by asking how they might do it differently next time....
Count with your child as they add the Cheerios. Use different sizes of cereals and talk about biggest and smallest. Bend your pipe cleaners into different shapes.. long and thin, round , square, triangle. Use this as an opportunity to talk about shape, size and number. Who might eat this in your garden? Get your child to think about the animals that might visit in the day or at night! If it is in a tree which animals will eat it ... but if it's on the ground which other creatures might visit? If you don't have pipe cleaners you can always use wool or string (Top Tip: Dip the end of the wool or string in candle wax to make it firmer and easier to use).
Simple and brilliant way to build up core muscle strength, which the children all need to embark on their journey towards writing ! If you don't have a broom then give them a small brush and if you don't have a small brush get them to use their feet, hands or even chin to move the objects. Put down the tape and scatter an assortment of objects. You could make a number of tape boxes and get the children to sort the objects into colours, sizes, vehicles and animals, or tell them to sweep everything into the square, triangle or circle. The options are endless!!
Just keep talking! ... It doesn't have to be just faces and emotions.. You can stick anything onto these stones, and if you don't have stones just cut up some bits of cardboard to stick the pictures on.. This is a great opportunity to encourage your children to use language and for you to extend their vocabulary by using lots of new descriptive language yourselves. Be sure to have lots of images and take it in turns to choose an image and then make up a story...... The world is your oyster!
This could keep them busy for a very long time!
